Staley Tomforde Buck
Life is better with a little dirt under your nails
My Story
Hi, my name is Staley and I have been working in the landscaping industry, in Houston, for nine years. I have worked in both the installation and maintenance departments of prominent landscaping companies. Over this time, I have grown to favor the creativity that comes with the installation of annual and perennial plants, especially in the vignette provided by pottery.
I was born and raised in Houston, graduating from Second Baptist High School, then Rhodes College for my BA. My husband, Noah, and I got married on Halloween of 2020 in my parents back yard with our family and pastor wearing costumes for the occasion. We recently welcomed our first child, Baby James, and we are totally smitten with him.
Staley Scapes began as a way to continue my love a bringing beauty in to people’s lives, through plants and gardening, while maintaining the flexibility to spend more time with my baby boy. As he grows, and our family grows, I want to teach him the wonderful things little plants and seeds can produce when given a little care and patience. He also won’t mind the opportunity to play in the dirt.
Plant Selection Process
As a Houston native, I am very familiar with the unique climate this city grapples with on a daily basis. The North East boasts of 8 foot tall hydrangea bushes, the Midwest smells of fragrant Lilacs in the summer, and the West Coast brims with beautiful roses and palm trees in the South and redwood and monkey puzzle trees in the North. So what does this Grass Land/Pine Forest/Gulf Coastal/Bayou-centric place have to offer?
My goal it to highlight the amazing plants that thrive in this climate and sharing the best practices that I have learned, and tested, over the years. Gardening is all about trial and error which makes the successes all the more wonderful.
